Jose,

you make some assumptions that may not work

1) this program requires the NSBasic runtime on the Pocket PC - most users do not have that installed

2)
Code:
    shellexecute "open","\Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe"
will not work when TTN is installed on storage card and runs from \TomTom (for example). It would be better to shellexecute the lnk file in \windows\start menu\programs (or the local equivalent)

Megabytes of download to send 100Kb of data to the PPC that do nothing - Now, some documentation would be nice so we know what we are meant to do (other than send you money which seems the only advice we have got so far). If it does as you say above then fine, you can have my money. Now - what is this about some runtime library we are meant to have? How much memory does it take up, and where do we get it? And is it free?

Hi Ibendlin

Thanks for your notes. Really I had a very busy day. The problem with NSBasic Runtime is sorted. Really it was in the installer, but not the order to install it. So now is corrected and uploaded newly.

The second point will only affect to a few customers, as a normal install of TTN5 do it in Main Memory. Even I was told by my betatester that he tried to install it in SD card and program was installed on Main Memory (?).

The add-on is just a start point, it will be developping furher complexity to cover more needs and special cases. And my customers know I don't speak just to make noise.

Hope now you can try it.

Regards,

You will probably want to state the size of the NSB runtime on the Pocket PC (which is substantial) so our users can decide if they want to install that or if they simply want to edit the tomtom.mnu with a text editor.

And as you may know we always recommend to install to Storage Card, so this will affect a few more users than you might have anticipated.

NSBRuntime can be installed perfectly in SD card, in my pda it does in that way even if I accept default directory. Never asked to George Henne if it was his "maker" decission. So it's not problem the size it takes there, BTW about 98 kb. The program closes down after executed so it's not taking memory whilst TTN is running.
As you may know more than the 50% of my customers came from this forum, so I know very well their installations. But thx for your suggestions. May be I need to repeat again this is a first step. Will follow more with more sofistification but as I need still to work as driver to have my living I will do it in the time I have.

I tried that but the installer insists on sending the files to \windows. Makes some sense because it also includes some of the eVB DLLS. It's 1.2MB, by the way.

I don't think that's the case - otherwise your demo mode wouldn't work. (you know, with deleting the mnu file afterwards)

Anyways - looking forward to future developments.

I like the way you de-inform about it... May be you refer to the size of the runtime.ppc.exe. But there are 3 times the libraries for MIPS, SH3 and ARM. So let's say it will be about one third of it.

And may be you run more programs in your PDA needing some of that Microsoft DLL and in that case they will be not installed if they are already. As is the case if yours is not a 2003 SE. Only these need near the totallity. Rest have they built in ROM and will be not charged. But as I don't know what you are running I need to put them in the installer.

But thx again, just try not confuse to readers.

You're 100% wrong again. And I challenge you to find my program working once TTN5 has been launched through it. Have a look on Running programs and let me know if you can see it there.

But thx again, just try not confuse to readers.

Now try to install it in an ARM machine, with TTN 5 in main memory as suggested by TomTom, then inform the readers if it does the job, I think it's your job, isn't it?

Sincerely, sick of this...

ok, let's see. Looking into the NSB Runtime.PocketPC4_ARM.CAB file we have

Code:

07/12/1999  04:22 PM               314 BASIC Runtime Register.nsb
03/30/2005  07:12 AM           154,624 basic.exe
11/22/2000  12:27 PM            47,616 DialogX.ocx
03/25/2000  11:04 PM           121,433 MSCEFile.dll
03/25/2000  11:04 PM           135,260 MSCEPicture.dll
04/17/2003  10:55 AM            55,808 pimtlb.dll
03/25/2000  11:04 PM             5,208 Pvbctrl.exe
03/25/2000  11:04 PM            28,760 Pvbdecl.dll
03/25/2000  11:04 PM           211,545 Pvbform2.dll
03/25/2000  11:04 PM            62,553 Pvbhost2.dll
03/25/2000  11:04 PM             3,160 Pvbkill.exe
03/25/2000  11:04 PM             8,792 Pvbload.exe
02/16/1999  08:20 AM             5,120 regsvrce.exe
03/30/2005  07:26 AM             1,120 RUNTIM~4.000
03/25/2000  10:47 PM           281,701 Vbscript.dll
07/12/2004  09:54 AM            99,840 v_remote.exe
              16 File(s)      1,222,854 bytes

and they are all installed into %CE2% - which is \Windows if I recall correctly. Would you agree?

So 100% wrong again.

I ignore what that CE folder is. But can see files that are not from NSBasic and a few are from eVB. Regsvrce.exe is one of them. It's a piece of the proper OS of any PDA installed already in Windows folder as every PDA user can confirm without to be programmer. VBscript.dll if I don't recall wrong is a runtime needed to run VB or eVB programmes, again nothing to do with NSBasic or my programme.

I do ignore what experiments you are doing. But having a look inside the nsb file will say you what of those files are and what are not.

The runtime just install a folder named NSBRuntime, as expected.

So in my folder NSBRuntime in SD card I have:
BASIC Runtime Register.nsb 314 bytes (can be removed if wanted)
basic.exe 151 Kb (the proper runtime)
v_remote.exe 97.5 Kb (can be removed if wanted)

and for Windows folder just when needed:
mscepicture.dll 132 kb
mscefile.dll 118 kb

If you have a look on the file NSB you will see there is only two lines for those two DLL above mentioned.

Delete that folder and all its contents. Make a clean install again of my software and then let it know to forum customers what you see there. It will be exactly the same I wrote.

Still waiting for some proof of the program running in the same time as TTN 5 or some thing telling you accepting you were wrong.

As programmers really we don't play the same league, not even the same game...

Have a good day, I go to take my coach.

That is very true. I am more used to writing native code, with small programs and well defined installation routines that are tested on multiple localizations.

Good luck with your program.

OK - so what is the bottom line?

a) what do I need to download?

b) how big is it?

c) what will it install?

d) where will it go?

e) how much memory will it take?

f) what exactly does it do?

g) what is the performance hit, if any?
