Avoid Motorways = Shortest Route!!

I was under the impression that when I selected Avoid Motorways that I would still get the Fastest Route but avoiding Motorways.

Not so. It appears that the Avoid Motorways option also gives you the Shortest Route. This means that Avoid Motorways may take you down a whole bunch of unclassified narrow roads that you weren't expecting.

Has anyone else experienced this?

nope i havn't used it before although i do use shorest route a lot

I have never used the avoid motorways. i have just used the alternate route system to eliminate the motorways I wanted to avoid.
