AutoPower off / Screen Off

As a newbie to TomTom and GPS technolgy please excuse if this question has already been resolved somewhere else deep in this forum.

Just recently got my GPS / PDA and TomTom all running, and have one really easy question to resolve - At present :D

On my PDA I have the Battery Power Level indictator which enables me to save power when on battery or save power after xx mins when on external power.
Currently my PDA is set to save battery power after 3mins on its own battery but no settings are set for external power.

However in TomTom when its running on my PDA and the GPS is connected via its cables, my power lead runs from the Car to the GPS and the PDA and also charges and power my PDA, thus I am hoping is telling my PDA its an External Power Source?
My PDA still however treats this a battery source and shuts off the illumination on the screen after xx mins?
Am I missing something in TomTom I can adjust? or is there a setting on the PDA for the screen illumination outside the Power settings in Control Panel?

Which PDA do you have? I know on IPAQ you have a power and backlight setting which allows you to disable or re-set times before power or light go off. This control is under "settings" power.

I think this is a bug in TomTom 5, I get this about one in every four occasions that I use it, then have to exit TT5 and restart it, then it works ok, seems to be worse when I have CheckPOInt running as well.

I have seen other people on the forum with this as well so not sure how you get around it.
