Alturion is Terrible

Well I've been experimenting with Alturion for a couple of weeks now and I'm decidedly unimpressed. The software is very flaky - frequently hanging - requiring soft reboots of my PDA. The menu system doesn't tally with the manual in many cases. The routes produced are often completely useless. The maps are not up to date. Support is very slow. Programming the PDA is often more time consuming than getting lost and asking someone the way. I've not used any other products but if as the review of Alturion on this site suggests, it is better than other systems then I think I'm going to invest in a new paper road map.

I'm quite shocked at how bad it is - how difficult to use, how unreliable many of the data transfer processes are, how slow to load, how counter intuitive etc etc. It's not a cheap product to buy but from it's performance I'd have guessed it was written by amateur coders.

It may be that I'm just a duffer in using this software but I seem to manage with other complex programs such as CNC / CAD and Sequencing software.

This is not a product ready for the mass market yet in my opinion.

I have to agree - i've played with Alturion for a few days. It is:

slow
buggy
fiddly to use
maps are unclear

Back to Tomtom for me.
