Failing GPS Recievers

Hi.
My wired satallite reciever has died on me - again ! Thats the second in six months ! The first was an original Kirrio one and the second one I bought off the Internet. Both times the flashing light has just come on continuosly, never flashes and gives no output. Anyone any idea whats wrong with them ? Am I damaging them ? Can you repair them ? I have them near to the radio speaker, could that cause problems ? Alternatively, what would anyone recommmend as a reliable replacement. Having three in six months seems a bit much, is this normal ? Its to go with a Palm T2 and mapsonic software. The previous ones both had PS2 connectors, so I assume I will need the same again.

We've heard all kinds of conspiracy theories (like putting the receiver next to a mobile phone will destroy the reception circuit) but speakers and their magnetic field are new in the list. Physically I cannot imagine them having any impact though.

Also, it may not be the receiver that dies but rather the comms circuit. Maybe your car's voltage is not regulated and produces spikes?

Maybe it's just statistics and you're on the short end of it?
