Extension lead for receiver?

Hi

I've run out of lead on my Tomtom (wired) receiver, can't make it reach the car mount.

From searching these forums, it seems that I might be able to use a modem lead extension?

I assume to do that though I'll have to use an adapter to convert the RJ-11 to an RJ-45, into the extnesion, and then another adapter to convert the RJ-45 back to an RJ-11 at the end of the extension?

Just wondering if anyone's done this, and whether all the wires are connected correctly. Not fussed about buying a lead and finding it doesn't work, but I would be fussed about blowing up my receiver or my PDA :o/

I bought a quality modem lead from PCWorld last week and a RJ11 to RJ11 coupler - I saw for sale an RJ11 extension lead with a male connector one end and a female the other but the wire seemed a bit cheap. I have not actually fitted it in my car yet.........
