I emailed TomTom asking for confirmation that the mid-April release date was still correct, in view of the delay for the new equipment.
Their reply was:-
*************************************
Thank you for your e-mail.
For the moment we do not have a release date for the new products. Pleas keep an eye on our website.
We hope to have answered your question.
With best regards,
The TomTom Customer Support Team

So there you have it, no date |

This is a quote from another forum regarding the V5 release
Quote: | Thank you for your question regarding the TomTom Upgrade procedure. Shortly TomTom will release an upgrade for all TomTom users at a discounted price, hereby allowing TomTom users to enjoy the new benefits of their navigation system. TomTom appreciates that there are certain TomTom users who have recently purchased their TomTom and are understandably frustrated at the prospect of paying again for an upgrade, may we reassure you that the upgrade will be beneficial to all users, old and new. Please note the TomTom licence agreement states that ‘the use of any updates or upgrades of the software is governed by the licence and maybe subject to additional payment’.
If you wish to upgrade any of your TomTom software whether it be TomTom Go, TomTom Navigator 2 or 3 for Palm or Pocket Pc, TomTom Navigation Pack or your TomTom Mobile, then may we ask if you could keep an eye on our website www.tomtom.com for any information regarding release dates, prices, processes and compatibility. Please note that there will be no hardware upgrade only a software upgrade.
TomTom Customer Support looks forward to supporting you during the upcoming upgrade process.
We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.
With best regards, |
well... what are we to make of this?
anyone in the "know" wish to elaborate?
I for one will be livid if I have to pay for an upgrade on a piece of kit only a matter of weeks old...[/quote] _________________ Life's a bitch... then I met Jane... |

I revised my question to TomTomGo as follows:-
"Can you confirm that you are indicating no release date yet for FIRMWARE 5 and not referring to the new Go 300,500 and 700's"
Herewith the updated reply:-
"The release of the upgrade should be within the next upcoming weeks and this is all we are allowed to tell you."
So, maybe by the end of the month!!!!!!! |

I don't remember seeing anyone from TomTom ever saying it was going to be free - I personally think a lot of assumptions have been made. However I do feel that TomTom are doing themselves no favours in remaining quiet - ok we may have to wait a few more weeks for the release of V5 but at the very least they could tell us whether we will have to pay for it and how much. _________________ Life's a bitch... then I met Jane... |

id be quite unhappy to pay a lot for the the upgrade, as i have only had my unit for 3 weeks
While i am happy with the functionality of the device, i think the charges should be minimal for the firmware, but having said that, there are some nice features!
Totally understand the need to charge extra for maps though |
