Hello,
I'm hoping to do a flydrive in the USA sometime between May-June and I'd like to get some USA maps for my TT3. I've noticed that very few places (apart from TT themselves) sell these anymore. Is this because new versions are imminent with the release of TT5?

Does anyone know anywhere where this can be bought? And if the coverage is any good in the Nevada/Arizona area (esp Vegas).

Thanks,

Paul.

You can buy them here http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=33&Language=1

THe coverage for Nevada is pretty decent. Maps are roughly three years old.

TomTom seem to have taken the link off their site (although the link above does still seem to work). Anyone know if they are planning on releasing an updated version? I'm off to the USA in June and will need them before then....

Found it again, seems like they've restructured the site a little. If I buy it now and they release new versions of the USA/Canada maps with V5, do you think I'd have to pay for the upgrade seperate to the charge for the UK maps?

From what I remember yes, this would be separate charges. However the North American upgrade price hasn't been communicated yet.

Hi, Im also looking for these maps, Its VERY difficult to find this from tomtom website, your link does work but for the life of me I cannot navigate to it from the main page without using the link.. Seems strange but still.

Just as a side note, I brought tomtom2 just a few weeks before TT3 was released which I wasnt aware of, at that time, there was a grace period, I dont remember its length, maybe it was 1 month? (Anyone remember) where you could get a free upgrade, if it was before that date when you purchased you paid the upgrade price. I personally recieved my copy ot TT3 free of charge via this route. Obviously this was the last version and it may not apply but thought I would let you know.

As for the maps being 3 years old?? Isnt that a bit bad? 3 years is a very long time to rely on maps of a whole country the size of the usa.. Surely there are MANY changes in that time to the roads over there? Personally Im after oklahoma and surrounding states..

Can anyone from the PGW team confirm if map / state stitching will be in the new TT5 and if the USA is getting a new version with updated maps?

Personally, I have read bad things regarding the latest TT USA that if you try to navigate a long way via several states, and the map size exceeds your SD card size then you have to load new maps at each new state patch, which would I assume require you to carry a laptop to load them up.

Will there be anyway of picking the states you need for your route and not have to pick the predesignated patches of maps like in the current version, and will there even be a new version with NEW maps also for the usa edition..

Thanks Smile

Map stitching was never part of TomTom's functionality and will not be part of version 5 either - for whatever reason.

Instead they offer the "Major Roads of America" (which means the main highways of the US) or, as an interesting alternative the "Cities of the US" map which is a combination of MRA with twenty odd city centres of the biggest cities.

This won't help you if you need details in a rural area - you will still need to switch manually to that detailed map.

However, nowadays 1 GB SD cards are not uncommon, and you can load all the state clusters plus the MRA map onto one storage card. So no need for a laptop.

Will there be new maps? Well, there better be. The current maps are now not just three but at least four years old (speaking about Texas here) and start to lose any resemblance to reality.

the latest release (including Canada) was on 8 CDs. But there are a lot of permutations, different state groupings. Eventually all you need are six big chunks (unless you live close to the border of these chunks) and these easily fit onto 1 GB
