HI,

I bought a Haicom 204s for my Dell Axim X3. I bought this on the http://www.BuyGPSNow.com website. I did not buy a USB-PS/2 cable from these guys thinking that i could use any USB-PS/2 converter. Now i see that my Haicom is not working on my laptop. When i try to install the USB-Serial Bridge driver, the OS reports that the hardware is not working properly. Any idea whats happening.

Thanks
Sreekar

You can't use a USB / PS/2 convertor at all - the GPS is actually serial, though it uses a PS/2 style plug.

I think the GPS has survived simply because the power pins are the same as in a real PS/2 style plug.

You need a proper Haicom USB cable - which globalpositioningsystems.co.uk have for GBP 14.99 - Fastlink P1725.

I wish the GPS companies wouldn't use designations for connectors that are what the connectors are ordinarily used for. The serial port on a HI-303 series multimode GPS is often described as mini-1394, when it's not Firewire at all. It just uses a 4 pin Firewire plug.

Hi there,

Do you happen to know if I can use an old cable that I had for a Rikaline 6010 receiver with the Haicom 204S?

Thanks for any advise you can give.

Luke
