I will be buying a Clie nx80v (my first PDA) and I wanted to know what was the best GPS system for it?

I am looking for a GPS system that I will be able to walk around freely with.

I have heard of several types of GPS systems for Palm OS but am not sure if is possible for them to operate away from a car. Question

My main concern is being able to walk around freely using GPS. If that is not possible on the Clie, any suggestions on a portable GPS stand alone system would be greatly appreciated also. :D

I am using the ViaMichelin Navigation Europe (if you are in the UK then probably cheapest from Expansys but make sure you get v2.5 not v1.3 and also download the updates from the viaMichelin website) on my Clie TJ-35 with no undue problems. The challenges you will face are powering a GPS receiver and the battery life of the Clie. The first can be solved by using a Bluetooth GPS receiver as your Clie will have Bluetooth. There is no easy solution to the second issue but it will depend on how long you plan to use it away from power. Also the software seems unable to operate in Navigation Mode with the Pedestrian setting. You may get some othe rinsight from the Mapsonic forum.

Help...

You can't use the bluetooth card as you need to put a memory stick in to store the maps (but not the application). I am using a Rikoline 6010 receiver (c£65)which has the advantage that powering the receiver also powers the Clie

HI there i have a T625 ...is it about the same as the SJ models??

Just wondering cause was thinking of putting my old CLie to some good use but buying a Hiacom GPS and then adding software ...? Via Michelin? which ever is cheapest/will work on palm/has POI data or can accept 3rd party software.

Would appreciate if anyone has advise on better systems/arrangement?

cheers

(ps Clie T625 runs OS 4.1, has hi-res screen of 320x320 and 16MB ram)

As far as I know viaMichelin Mapsonic requires OS5 and therefore will not work on T625. Also processor speed is probably insufficient
