I have been looking at the new mitac mio 269, navman 510, medion pda 150 and navigon. Thought I had made my mind up on the navman at first but then went into Halfords and listened to the volume ......thought it was very very low and this really put me off this one. Nobody local seems to stock mitac, I know the mio 269 is fairly new but is there a reason why many dont stock mitac?? The medion and the navigon almost identical except for the price difference.... is one running a better software/maps.

I am a real novice to this world but basically I am looking for......

a device that contains or can download european maps
capable of adding own poi's
upgradeable
3d topgraphical maps
postcode entry
reasonable sound volume
cost of around £400
portable for use when out of car
rivers and lakes listed on maps (husband a fisherman)

I am looking in the right direction with the devices listed above mor have I missed something???

Grateful of any advice
Regards

Have you looked at the Garmin Quest, £329 but it doesn't search postcodes.

Hello Sue,

Personally if i was buying my first system I would choose the Mitac 269 that you have looked at, excellent specs and with a 2.5GB hard drive that holds all of the supplied maps, buying most other units requires you to purchase a storage card that can cost on average £60-80 for a 1GB card alone.

Why you do not see Mitac products so often in shops I am not sure, but Staples / Office World stock mio gps units, some may be branded as Evesham, but also note that a lot of Medion gps products are re-branded Mitac units.

Aldi UK have done a couple of offers on Medion gps systems (the Mitac rebranded units), both being sold out within 15 minutes of opening time.
