Hello!

there is a new Mobile navigation product from Finland called Navicore. At the moment it supports more Nokia phones than TomTom. The maps for Western-Europe will be released still this year.

The English site is: www.navicore.fi/en_GB/frontpage/

Is it possible that someone from the pocketgps staff should check also this product.

I'm using my self TomTom 3 (PDA), and I'm very interested about mobile navigation.

At the moment I'm waiting, is TomTom going to support more Nokia phones like Nokia 6670 & 7610.

Best regards,
Roy

At the moment, Navicore has released a version with the Scandinavian maps. You can buy it on a 256Mb or 512Mb MMC and RS-MMC cards.
They are going to release european maps at the beginning of next year.

It is possible to buy only the software and maps, or as a bundle with the GPS.

It works with Nokia 3230, 3650, 3660, 6260, 6600, 6630, 6670, 7610, N-Gage, N-Gage QD and
Siemens SX-1.

I think it will be a good alternative for TomTom Mobile.

The voice files are also in english.

The maps are from TeleAtlas, like TomTom has.

It would be nice, if someone from the PocketGPS moderators would comment this thread. Also it would be good, if the program could be reviewed on the site. At least then, when there are the european maps available.

Navicore supports now also S80 phones.

The maps of Western Europe are going to be released next year.

I'm using now the Scandinavian version, and it is really good.

We will happily make enquiries of the manufacturer as more options in the mobile device arena can only be a good thing but until it provides UK or US support we would not be able to test it unless you want to invite us over to Finland for a few days ;)

You would be more than welcome to submit a user review, how about it?

I'm just a user of the product, and I don't have anything to do with the manufacturing or the marketing of the product. 8)

Just what I want, is that you all know that there is a new product and that it is on the market.

I think people who visits this forum, does not know so much about Finland 8O etc.

Maybe I can later write down something about the product. I'm also happy to answear some questions about the product, if someone is interested about it.

Immediatly when there is coming out Western Europe maps, I'll inform about it here.

It would also be good, if people in Sweden or Denmark would test the software.

You are very Welcome But don't sit on the fence now, if you like it get typing and let us know how it works for you, screen shots would be nice as well and we can then post a user review to show others what it's like Smile

Don't worry about your English, it's much better than my Finnish and we can edit where necessary anyway Thumbs Up

I'd be happy to test it in Sweden if I could get a trial version of the SW. Do you know if they provide such a thing? Is the product using Navteq or Tele Atlas for their maps? I'd be most interested in getting a chance to compare my current Navman system (with Tele Atlas maps) with a Navteq based product.

Speaking of Scandinavian navigation systems, I've found a Swedish company (based in Gothenburg, my hometown) that is developing a Navigation program for mobile phones that is using GPS and GPRS. The maps would be downloaded from a server via a Telecom operator instead of being stored locally. This sounds like a very interesting solution, since it would potentially allow for a quicker update of the map material. I see this as a major problem with the products discussed on this site.
If you're interested you can have a look at their home page: http://www.appello.se

Regards,
Ulf

Ah...after having a look at their webb page I realised that the product is only intended for mobile phones, not PDAs. My mobile phone is a Sony Ericsson K700i without any memory card so it would be difficult to test the SW at the moment. Sad
