Can't see place names on the map

Hi,
Just switched to TT3 from Copilot5 - and it's HUGELY better in nearly every way. But that's not the point of this post... the only gripe I've got is that when I load the Major Roads of Europe map I can't see many place names. I know they're in the database, because they show up when I look up addresses. But they're not there on the map. When you zoom right in some street names are visible, but not towns or villages, only big cities. I've changed the "place names" slider, but it doesn't have any effect.

Does anyone know how I can get to see a reasonable number of place names on the MRE map?
