Making your own voice files

I have a laptop with built in mic that when I record my voice using sound recorder it plays back very quiet.

I plugged in a USB mic and configured and set everthing to hight and boost etc but still get the same results:(

Can anyone give guidance on the best way to record please?

You need a very quiet room (best a professional studio) and an extremely quiet PC - otherwise you'll hear the noise of the fan and toe hard disk.

The microphone can be boosted with the standard sound settings - right click on the speaker icon, press "Properties" then Go to the Recording properties and pull the lever up for the mike.
