Hi all

Had my ttg a week now had a good trip in the new year

Today mmmm loss of signal on main roads eg m25
do trees cut out signals?

Then to cap it off approaching a roundabout the screen spins round and round I go straight over but the ttg freezes
I tried to turn it off but it wouldn't go off, so reset it. Then
turned it back on, it does the start up bit
then all i get two red hands and tom tom logo and no maps etc

eject and re-insert the card while the GO is on, see if that helps.

I got very similar symptoms when I installed v4.40 from the CD onto a new SD card. When this happened, I couldn't turn it off, and had to reset it with a paper clip. The SD card which came with TTG had v4.420 on it - which was ok. When I copied this onto the new card, that was ok too.

What version are you running? If it's 4.40, download and install the latest 4.420 version from the TomTom site.

[I have mentioned problems with 4.40 in other threads, but no-one else seems to have reported this problem until now. Nevertheless, I suspect there's something odd about 4.40]

You THINK it's 4.42 - but can you make absolutely sure, because I think it's important.

If you can get the thing to work - at least temporarily - tap the bottom right-hand corner of the screen when the map is displayed, and it will tell you the software version.

[When I had the problem, I found that it would usually work at the second attempt. In other words, insert the card and turn it on. It reads the card and then hangs, displaying the hands. Reset it with a paper clip. Turn it on again. This time, the map appears - eventually.]

If you can't get the thing to work at all, it may be possible to find the version by viewing one of the files on the card from your PC - assuming the USB interface still works - but I don't know which file. Help, anybody?!

With regard to passing POIs before getting a warning, is this just speed cameras or does it include the built-in POI's? Does it always happen? It's inevitable that one or two speed cameras will be missing from the database, or in slightly the wrong place. Have you told it only to warn of POIs on your route - because you can easily miss some this way? It's safer to turn off this option.

By "missed a two" do you mean it was 4.40 instead of 4.42?

If so, it confirms my suspicion that there is a problem with 4.40.

You could actually download and install 4.42 - and it would probably be ok - but if they're replacing it, that's probably better.

Do make sure you're getting the latest version though - there still seem to be a lot of earlier versions in stock with various suppliers!
