Please don't post messages which encourage or solicit software theft. If you want the maps buy them.

Be very careful if you buy second hand. The maps cannot be used until you activate them with TomTom. Most people who buy maps from, for example, ebay find that all the permitted activations have been used up, and their CD ROMs are useless.

Can you please clarify about activation.
When I first installed TTN3, I provided personal details to register with TT. On subsequent reinstallations of the software and maps, I skipped this step. What have I "used up"?

Each TomTom Product Code can only be used to activate a limited number of devices.

Once a Product Code has been used to activate one device, you have to wait seven days before you can use it to activate another device.

After the Product Code has been used on two devices, you have to wait 180 days (as near as matters, six months) after the last activation of a new device before you can use the Product Code to activate another new device.

You can reactivate devices already activated with a Product Code at any time without penalty, but TomTom are strict over not allowing 'early' activations of devices. The only exceptions are if you need an 'early' activation because a device's identity was changed by repair or insurance claim - in both cases, documentary proof will be requested.

Thanks.
Where is that history held? Presumably not on the PC from which the installation takes place or from the PPC either. So presumably that is sent to TT when you try to install.

When you initially register then machine ID is tagged to the Software Key and logged by TomTom at www.ttcode.com . Subsequent installs to that same device do not count.

If you use the same PC to install then you do not need to activate as the details are retained on that PC. If you use another PC then you would need to run through the activation process again, although as explained if it's the same device you're installing to then it doesn't count against your install limit.
