Heyo people !

Im about of purchasing a new gps system. after browsing the net i decided to go on the hp 2210.

my problem is the gps reciever. CF seems to be half price from BT recievers around here. anybody knows about differences between their performance ? is it necessery paying twice for BT receiver ?

thank you !

Depends on your usage pattern.

BT may be more expensive, but it has its own battery, the CF slot is free for memory cards, and you can position the GPS receiver wherever you want (think tinted windscreen).

Let us know what you want to use it for.

What type of cars? Clear or tinted windscreens?

BT is good but it remember if you want to use it outside the car it will quickly drain your battery on the PDA. I would say in most cases I get a better signal from the BT GPS as you can position it better in the vehicle, both have there advantages and disadvantages.

Make sure you still can get a 2210 as they are disappearing fast, the newer model 2110 is replacing it.

It seems that the consensus is that the drain of the Bluetooth radio being on is less than the drain of powering a CompactFlash GPS - so away from power, a Bluetooth setup will last longer than a CompactFlash GPS one.

It's also arguably easier to ruggedise a Bluetooth setup, as you have two regular shaped objects. The Bluetooth GPS needs a good view of the sky, and the PDA can be kept under your jacket much of the time if you're in bad weather.

You also have the option of switching the PDA off and on with Bluetooth - if you leave the Bluetooth GPS on you'll be able to get an instant fix when you switch the PDA back on.
