I've downloads POIEdit and the POIs for Sainsbury's. I don't understand the "Reset GPS for this location" feature in TomTom Navigator 3 though.

Its showing my local Sainsburys in the wrong place. I want to change the POI info to correct it.

So my understanding of "Reset GPS..." must be wrong - what does it do?

I'm also trying to use POIEdit to correct the long/lat of the POI, but how do I find out from TomTom the correct long/lat? I can see the location on the map, but can't see the long/lat anywhere. Would I have to physically go to that place with the PDA andwrite down the lond/lat from the GPS Info tool?

Cheers,

S.

Reset GPS for this location is to give a hint to a GPS that hasn't got a position fix to help it fix. It sends the marked position and the current time and date to the GPS.

To correct the POI, you need to tap and hold on the POI point, select "Delete point of interest" (which is on the second menu - select More on the first one), tap and hold in the correct location, and select "Create point of interest" - making sure that you select the POI file you want to add it to.

So does that mean that if I select "Reset", that it corrects what it thinks is my "current" position ??

What happens if I have GPS disabled when selecting it? Does it use my last known position?

I ask as I may just have unknowingly set Sainsburys to my last know position (at home). Is there a way of clearing this??

Ahh... I think I just understood...

your saying it only sends an update to the GPS unit itself. i.e. nothing permenant changes in TomTom - right? So when I reset the PDA then it all goes back to normal??

That's right - no permanent changes are made. It's only used as a hint to a GPS that's not managing to get a position fix.

If the GPS has an up to date almanac, and is fed a 'reset' that contains a position accurate to a few tens of miles (the more accurate the better) and a time that's accurate to within a few minutes (which, in TomTom Navigator, comes from the Pocket PC's clock so far as I know - or maybe Navigator doesn't send a time at all), it then knows what GPS satellites should be overhead and therefore which satellites it should be 'listening' for.

This speeds things over having to listen for all the different satellites to figure out by trial and error what is overhead.
