TTN3 map view vs. navigator view in 2D mode

As far as I can tell both views support navigation. And some features and options appear from one view, and some from the other. All very confusing (to me).

Does the jury know what the paradigm/reason is for having these two different views. Or it it just historical? It would seem that combining the views might be easier for the user?!?

They do different jobs. The Navigator screen is the only screen where voice navigation prompts are available, and, from memory, the map is turned so that the direction of travel is to the top (I only use the 3D view).

The Map screen always has north to the top and you can't have voice navigation prompts in it.


Further, tapping on the screen has a different function - in the Navigator screen it brings up menus containing the sort of functions you require 'on the move'. In the Map screen, it allows you to do things like pan the map, create, edit and delete POIs, and set destinations manually.
