Help ...
I've just bought the Aldi Medion MD95000 and I'm VERY impressed. But what is POI? When I plot a route it shows me local features, eg the "Shell" logo for a Shell petrol station, "McDonalds" logo as I pass a McDonalds, etc.
However ...
1) Can I plot to these points?
2) The points are all mixed up. For example, when I pass my local Harvester Restaurant, it shows up as a Shell station, and the public library at the end of my road is now McDonalds. How do I correct this?
3) What extra would POI Warner give me and how do I install it?

Hi glenham1,
I will try to answer some of your questions...
0) A POI (otherwise known as a Point of Interest) is a file that you can download onto your PDA. It is usually created by members of the public (you can see the Points Of Interest page on this website for files created by users of PocketGPSWorld.com) and contains an .ov2 file which carries the data for the file, a .txt file which carries the creation information for that file, and a .bmp file which is the logo that you see on your screen (i.e. Harvester, etc.)
Let's take the Harvester POI as an example. The Harvester .ov2 file has been put together with the longitude and latitude co-ordinates of all the Harvester restaurants in the UK. This allows your PDA to display them on the map for your information. It also allows you to plot a route to them if your setup allows.
1) Which brings me on to my next point... In TomTom Navigator you can easily set a route to user-created POI's, but as I have no idea about the capabilities of your setup, I would rather let someone else who has this setup answer this one.
2) Again, I don't really have any idea why the files would be messed up like this. Did you have a play with the files? The reason I ask this is because if the .bmp file for a POI had been swapped around with the .bmp file for another POI file, then you would get the situation you are experiencing now - that Harvesters are showing up as Shell stations, etc.
3) POI Warner is a very useful tool and does exactly what it says on the tin - it warns you when you are approaching POI's. It is a very useful thing to have.
HTH. Sorry about the ones I couldn't be more helpful on.
Regards,
Bo Peep. _________________ TomTom 730

You can navigate to these points or any other by selecting the map, then when zoomed in so that you see the place (or even just a road) just hold the stylus tip on that position for about 1 second and you will see a blue circle being drawn, then a new screen apears, just click Execute and type in the name you want, then go back to the main menu, click One destination, then select Saved destinations and select the one you just made, click OK after you select it, then click Start navigation.
Note: you should save your Home address in the Settings menu, this helps out when you want to get home without having to enter it every time, as there is a Home icon next to the One destination button.
