Fortuna BT Clip-on, HP 5550, & TTN3: GPS Position Unreli

I got my pack from globalpositioningsystems.co.uk and very excitedly set about getting it going.

Eventually managed to get the GPS Receiver to find satellite (LED colour on Device telling me), but TT3 says GPS Position unreliable!

I have tried;
SiRF 38400 with BT Serial Port 8
NMEA 0183v2 Bluetooth with BT Serial Port 8
NMEA 0183v2 38400 with BT Serial Port 8

NOTHING WORKS

I am off on my hol's today and wanted it working before I leave at 2pm.
Globalpositioningsystems.co.uk are closed!

Please anyone HELP ME!

Hi Pi,

I’ve got an iPAQ 3970 running TTNav2.24 and GPS 2.07, and a Fortuna Clip-On.

I use the Clip-On in ST mode, and the GPS driver set to:
NMEA 0183v2 38400
Bluetooth Serial Port COM8

If your Clip-On reports (by LED colour) that it’s got satellites, then if you view the GPS Status, is the GPS communicating with the iPAQ?

In the GPS page is the slider switch set to “TomTom” instead of the “Zzz”? This is in the centre of the page above the map.

I have set-up my device as you, but still keep getting GPS unreliable.

The GPS is communicationg, Blue LED flashing, BT Manager says outbound comms connected! I would have thought it should be in both outbound and inbound for comm's Question

I have the slider set to TT rather than Zzzz.

I have TTN3, and GPS 3.01 so all latest software!

Globalpositionigsystems.co.uk should be open tomorrow, but i have now spent 1.5 hours on the phone holding to speak with someone over the last 3 days. Today they were closed for Easter Exclamation

First of all I would try NMEA 01832 4800. Go outside and leave it for a while, you may need to do a full factory fix (15 mins). Don't use SiRF it won't work well with TomTom, you'll be placed in the North Sea if you're lucky giving you an unreliable position message.

You will also need to make sure you are on a public road (or it thinks you are), if you are on a road dotted with pink, or it doesn't look like you are on a road, you will get that message. Start driving and providing you have 4 or more red sat bars then you should get a reliable position.

Pi, I'm in exactly the same situation as you (I'm even going on holiday tomorrow!)

Everything seems fine, except TomTom still reports 'GPS position unreliable'.

Did you / has anyone, ever resolved this?

... 3.01 is not the latest driver. What about trying 3.03?

The outcome - I returned the GPS Unit, which turned out to be faulty as it was locked in 'IMIE' mode - what ever that is!
