First real test of my GPS kit: failure.

I've got a Fortuna Clip On, the latest Tomtom navigation software, iPaq 3870 and a Kingston 512MB SD card.

I haven't really tested it out before. I've driven around London here and there locally and all seemed fine.

Today I did a trip from London to West Sussex.
It wasn't exaclty a big test.

On the way there the GPS unit lost GPS connection somehow 4 times!
I had to pay more attention to the unit than the road!
(A very safe driver though.)
On occasions, full connection was still there between the iPaq and GPS receiver, but the navigation wasn't showing anything??
In amongst everything, the unit locked up about 3 times.

On the way back, it was slightly better.
But, then I went into Blackwall tunnel... and when I came out... the unit just locked up and refused to come alvie again without a reset.

What am I doing wrong?
Is one of my bits of hardware faulty?

Any help would be appreciated.
