|
|
I'm using a TTN3 Bluetooth with an iPaq 1940.
The system will seem to be working fine.
If I turn the Bluetooth unit off and turn on again (just for testing purposes) (or say I turn the thing on in the morning say):
It finds it impossible to find a GPS signal - when previously, 30 seconds previously, the signal was fine with 4/5 satelites showing.
I've tried playing around and poking around and pressing everything... nothing will happen. I've tried rebooting the iPaq. Turning the TTN off and on... and nothing.
Then... suddenly after 20 or so minutes... the signal will automatically come back!
What's happening!? What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Jam
AND...
I don't know if anyone would agree... but the Tomtom manual (that I've had to print off) sucks. It's totally unintuitive and hard to follow! _________________ iPaq 3870

can you confirm that you are using the receiver at NMEA 38400 ? _________________ Lutz

That sounds like it's losing the ephemeris data when it's switched off - and I'd guess that's usually caused by a faulty battery/capacitor for maintaining the ephemeris in NVRAM.

It takes something like 12 minutes for the ephemeris data to download, assuming that the unit maintains clear sight of the satellite it's acquiring the ephemeris from - so if you're moving or the satellite you're acquiring from moves out of view (behind a building, below the horizon etc) then it'll have to start the ephemeris download all over again.....
Bottom line, I don't think your unit should do that either - kind of suggests it might be faulty (the batteries are shot), or not yet fully charged - not having ever played with the TomTom unit I couldn't say for sure though. |

Your GPS receiver supports different protocols, SiRF and NMEA. Sometimes the SiRF protocol gives problems, and aas a precaution you should run your receiver with the standard settings. For serial receivers the standard happens to be the NMEA protocol at a speed of 4800 Baud. For BlueTooth receivers (like yours) it happens to be NMEA at 38400 baud. _________________ Lutz

It's very easy actually. Go to Start > Settings > System > GPS, and tap on the GPS tab. uncheck the box and then examine the dropdowns. _________________ Lutz
