It seems that every major route in the UK is getting new speed cameras, especially when it comes to roadworks. The current trend is to deploy average speed cameras to keep road workers safe.
The point-to-point devices now monitor 100's of miles of UK roadworks and are thought to be more effective at reducing casualties.
This time it's the turn of West Yorkshire. Average speed cameras on the M621, which takes traffic into central Leeds, are being prepared for inspection on Tuesday 9th April. If all goes to plan, West Yorkshire Police will give the go-ahead for the cameras to go live.
The devices will monitor a varied 40mph or 50mph limit for six months on a stretch of roadworks to upgrade the motorway. _________________ Robert Brady |

Beats me why they remove them when the roadworks are complete.
Why not leave them and raise to the prevailing limit. _________________ Satnav:

Because they are quite expensive, and they are best deployed where there are current hazards rather than where there used to be some hazards.

Indeed. They would need to be a lot cheaper! _________________ Robert Brady |

FYI - we have the location in the database just waiting to be activated once we're alerted to the 'camera not in use' signs being removed |
