I find that the Cameralert iOS app is not very effective when in night mode.
Yes, the overall screen dims but in doing so, the map fades becoming illegible & taking too long too see the roads clearly. The cameras being bright & bold, stand out from the background.
I am hoping that you will consider changing the background to black, with perhaps grey roads. The Waze night mode seems to be very effective at giving you a clear map & information quickly, without being bright.

Although not a direct answer to your question, had you thought of running CA in the background behind Waze? You have the map that you like with the CA alerts popping up as and when. One other thing, you do realise that running CA in map mode uses a bit of your data allowance, don't you? |

Is this what you mean? Seems to be personal preferences, as I like this display (although as mentioned by M8TJT I don't set map "Always").
Personally I use the map show "Only when near"...
