I note that the latest version of Garmin Express v 3.0.9.0 that's just been released in the last 24 hours won't let you opt to not load it with Windows, unless I've missed the box.
The only 2 options now are to auto start the app when a device is connected and to auto update the app.
That's another running service and tray icon then _________________ DashCam:

v3.0.9 has been out for about a week now, but I don't believe previous versions could be installed without running when Windows starts
You're not therefore missing anything. The whole idea of Express is that it sits in the background and will download updates as available, enabling you to install them at your convenience. You can disable it if you wish through msconfig.
Incidentally I have auto update the app ticked, but it's never worked |

I haven't run Express since the last map update. I ran it on Sunday as I remembered to bring the unit in from the garage.
Express then updated itself on Sunday but not to the version mentioned above. This new version only came in yesterday so I had a double update in 3 days.
I know that the version on Sunday definitely had the usual option via a checkbox to not start with Windows which I have had checked since installing Express in the first place = no icon in the notification area.
I'll look into disabling it elsewhere as I don't need it running all the time when I only use it monthly at best. _________________ DashCam:

That's really strange then as there are numerous complaints on the Garmin forums about not/never having that option |

Yep, and there are all sorts of problems reported with folks updating CN NA to 2015.10. CN EU 2015.10 should be out shortly so here's my golden rules for a successful update:
I never download a map update immediately, with everyone trying the servers don't seem able to cope. I also ensure I have a full back up just in case. The best tip though is to download to a cloned card or usb stick. That way if something goes wrong your satnav is still working and the download is also much faster. Once I'm sure it's worked I then manually copy the files to my satnav.
I've never experienced an issue updating my maps by doing it that way. If you fancy trying the clone method details are here

Well 3.2.3 lasted less than a day - 3.2.4 out now which hopefully will fix the reported problems of installing the 2015.10 NA maps and hopefully 2015.10 EU maps which are on Garmin's servers awaiting release.
At least Garmin seem quick to push out a fix, just a shame their testing lets them down. Now if they were as quick to fix their Nuvi firmware... _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

They probably follow the Microsoft testing strategy:
Release it and wait for the phone to ring _________________ DashCam:

Many are reporting no problems. The issue seems to be server overload and the CN NA DEM map being deleted. Hopefully sorted shortly. |
