Hi
so upto last week I was using a version 8 navcore on my TT1, its been good for about 2 years or so until it crashed out and I couldn't get it to load up past the start screen
I used the original card that came with the TT and the TT started up with no
issues so I put the faulty card back in and I got it to startup but all my favourites and home position were gone, it then locked up again and after a reset it refused to start up again.
I put the SD card into my laptop and it showed the mapsettings.cfg to be 1k in size, I got the backup copy I keep and that was 15k, thinking this was the issue I copied the backup file onto the SD card, but the TT still hung on startup.
I bit the bullet ( I didn't have a recent copy with all my POI's etc, but they were easy to replace) so I did a full format on the card and found it had errors during the format
A new card was then used and I just copied the navcore files onto it and it started up fine I then added the map folder and it started up.
Yay I thought, until I powered it off and back on and it hung on start up.
I tried running the flash program to clear the memory but that hasn't done anything ( it seems not to do anything or is that normal with the clearflash program)
I liked the Nav 8 version, the graphics are clearer the keyboard is qwerty and I can change the car icon, so is the TT faulty and is there anything I can do with it
Until then im using the original version 7 Navcore which is useable but its like having a Rolls Royce on loan and going back to a Ford Cortina _________________ Call Me N3wt for short.....

It does sound like the old card was faulty, but that doesn't explain the problems with the new card.
As an experiment, to check the new card, you could try copying the entire contents from the old card onto the new one (if you don't have a separate card reader, just copy to and from the TomTom card slot, using the PC as a temporary store). Does that work OK?
Am I right in thinking you don't have a full backup of the unit since it was running V8 software?
If you do, have you tried putting that entire backup on the new card? (I'm wondering why you just put the system files and the map folder on?)
Finally, the "Clearflash" utility was never given a particularily "pretty" user interface. It DOES work, but it doesn't really do much to tell you that it has!
(P.S. I'll move this to the TomTom section, but leave a flag about it in the original place) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-)

Hi Andy
Thanks for the reply, i tried the card contents on the new card with the same result, it hangs, when i said the system files i meant a copy of the navcore files i had that i used to build the original card with, strange that it lasted over 2 years before giving up. It did boot up with these on like i said and again when
I added the map folder then stopped after a reboot.
I have a full backup of the original card that i zipped up and stored on my file server and this has been tried on the new card with the unit hanging on startup.
My guess is the TT memory may be shot and cant handle the larger sized navcore files.
As i said if i use the card that came with the unit when i bought it with the V7 navcore it works fine, as a side note i created a new setup using TT home and it took a few update attempts before it added the map folder (paid and legitimate) and a few more before it added the postcode files. Oh and it keeps trying to install the same version of navcore. _________________ Call Me N3wt for short.....
