One affordable way of getting maps for the whole of Europe is to upgrade your software to Mobile Navigator 4 from Navigon (who produce the Medion software). MN4 comes with maps for all of Western Europe as well as major roads in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In total, the maps cover 5 million km and 210,000 town centres, as well as 750,000 POIs. The maps are fully detailed to street level for some countries (such as Germany and the Netherlands) but are more selective for France and Spain, covering major routes and towns. There was a guide to the map coverage on the Navigon Web site but it seems to have disappeared.
As well as the wider map coverage, MN4 has other improvements such as 3D map views and a "skinnable" interface. It also supports TMC traffic broadcasts and will (in theory) re-route you around traffic hold-ups, but this facility requires a new GPS receiver costing 229 euros.
The basic software upgrade to MN4 costs 99 euros. The two possible downsides are that forum members have had problems in getting a response from Navigon (there is no UK distributor, it seems), and the new software apparently has a few bugs.
You can find more details on the Navigon Web site

And if you plan to go to the Irish Republic (outside the major cities - Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway) and stray from the major N-roads you'll find yourself in whitespace on the map too.... although it does show a few of the intersections with the lesser N-roads |

On this theme I have now written to Navigon in Germany (in German!) using International Registered Post to see if I can make any progress with my order for Navigator 4.
It looks like a good product at a good price, but customer service is just totally absent. |

Noggin, please keeps us posted on this. I'm off to France in August and would love to get the Navigon|4 package upgrade rather than just a map of France from Medion. However, until there is evidence that Navigon are actually shipping product I'm holding on to my cash. |

I promise I'll post a reply when (or if) I do actually manage to get the software! |
