Hi there
Help please.
Am used to downloading your POI files using Windows but now have an iMac 12.1 with Safari and am having problems. I can download the files ok and can see them in Finder, then Downloads but cannot move them from there to my TomTom 730 (not using HOME)
Have tried using The Unarchiver but no luck.
Have searched and scratched my head then searched again but am stuck.
All help will be gratefully received and appreciated.
Many thanks

At what point is it going wrong for you?
Are you unable to download the .zip archive of the POIs?
Are you unable to un-zip it to give you a bunch of individual files?
Or are you unable to copy those files to the TomTom?
I do know that many people say the Mac's own built-in un-zipper is pretty poor, but I can't remember which add-on prog. they do recommend. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

The Mac's built-in utility is poor; I use Stuffit Expander instead - works fine for unzipping POI files. |

So at what point are you having a problem with Copy and Paste?
Any error messages? _________________ Richard

Drag the cameras zip onto Unarchiver - I keep the Unarchiver on my desktop... I also find it easier to download the camera file onto my desktop rather than the Downloads folder. It will then create a new folder with all the unzipped files in it. Open this folder, select all files in the folder and then drag them into the map folder on your tom-tom (remember that if your map is on an SD card, that will show up as a separate icon on your desktop. _________________ GO 750 Live HD Traffic, Map Europe 930, Navcore 9.510 |

Many thanks one and all for the replies.
I have been trying to download the Speed Cameras files.
One of the problems was after appearing in 'Downloads' I couldn't un-zip the file and copy to TomTom.
I tried Foggy's idea using Unarchiver but had no luck.
However taking pwards advice I downloaded Stuffit. That worked fine.
I think I have now done it but............I have two questions.
1) Is there any way of checking that I really have the latest version of the speed cameras on my device?
2) Froggy mentioned about downloading "the camera file onto my desktop" How do I do this without it going automatically to Downloads?
Lots of thanks for all your help

Hi M8TJT
Thanks for the reply.
My question should have been how do I know I have really downloaded the new files. Is there any way to check it is the new file i'm using on my device.
Using PGPSW to download files you get the message......
To Download the Same Again:
You last downloaded...
TomTom OV2 [ UK - Consolidated by type (Gatso,Mobile,etc) | pMobiles: Yes | French: No | Swiss: No ]
(11.023 - 20 Feb 13)
Download same format (current version)
You are not given the choice where to store it.
I don't think there is a 'save as' option on the Mac but would like some choice.
Thanks again

Once you download and unzip the folder one of the files will be called "Release.txt". This file contains the date and version number of the download, currently 11.023. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

There's a Mac equivalent of 'Save As' you can access by right-clicking a link and selecting 'Save Linked Files As...'. However this only works for direct links to files and won't work in this case.
Assuming you are using Safari you can set the download location for files in the General section of Safari preferences. |

Don't know Macs but I'm sure someone who does will be along in a mo and explain exactly what to do.
Like they just did |

And as the OP has a Go730, you can even do as I do and copy the release.txt file into the "text" folder on the TomTom.
Then you can read it on the TomTom's screen using the document viewer whenever you want to check the version installed (so long as you remember to re-copy it every time!) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

One TINY problem with this is the "dot-underscore" copy of the .txt file which is also created by the iMac and placed on the TT device. I swear one of these days I'll read the instructions a kind member sent me on how to get rid of it. _________________ Dennis
