A skateboarder has managed to set off a speed camera in Cape Town, South Africa.
The 24 year old, Decio Lourenco triggered the camera in a 37mph zone whilst reportedly travelling at an incredible 70mph.
The episode was filmed from a friend's car with a camera attached to the bumper - the skateboarder's speed was tracked by a GPS sensor strapped to his ankle.
The Cape Town authorities were less than impressed though, they plan to prosecute, commenting, "All that was needed was for one of those motorists to panic and swerve into the oncoming traffic and you have a large number of deaths, as we have already had on that road". Lourenco will be charged with reckless and negligent road behaviour.
Lourenco defended himself by saying, "I accept that it's dangerous but so is stepping out of my front door," he said. "I skate down that road all the time and was skating well within my limitations."
There was a similar incident involving a British rollerblader in May 2011 after he set off a 30mph speed camera in Hastings, East Sussex. He escaped prosecution as apparently the UK's Road Traffic Regulation Act only applies to motorised vehicles.

Apparently, speed limits don't apply to bicycles but cyclists can be prosecuted simply for cycling too fast - under the charge of 'cycling furiously'. They can also be prosecuted for riding dangerously or carelessly - I might as well stick to the car then _________________ Galaxy Note 4 / TomTom GO : CamerAlert : CoPilot |

They certainly can Ian, a blind friend of mine was once cautioned for cycling furiously down Glastonbury High Street - on the back of a tandem |
