|
|
Hi
I have just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 2545 Satnav to replace my old Navman . The Navman was easy to add speed cams to, but struggling with the Garmin with respect to getting the voice alerts to function.
Can anyone please advise how to dowload and use the Pocket GPS World speed cam files so that i get a voice warning as an alert please.
I have tried various cominations of files but to date no luck.
A step by step guide would be great!
Many thanks in advance

There's a step by step guide here
Rather confusingly, it still only appears on the OLD voice warnings page, it should have been moved or copied on to the main camera database installation instructions for Garmin models by now....
It also refers to converting the mp3 audio files to .wav format which is no longer relevant as the new, supported audio files are already available in both formats.
You get the new audio files at the same time as you download the camera database, not from that old page (although those voices still work, they are not necessarily complete sets).
The important things are
1. Choose wav or mp3 depending on whether your Nuvi has an mp3 player or not.
2. If you need to use .wav then get the right version of sox.exe (use the link provided) and put it in the right place.
You MIGHT need an older version of POI Loader too. Some links and more installation notes are in an old topic of mine here
Please note I'm actually NOT a Garmin user, just a good librarian/bookmarker! _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks to Andy P for advice on how to overcome the voice alerts on my Garmin Nuvi.
I have carefully read through the information but then read that this method was NOT supported by Garmin, I am now in a quandary. Do I go ahead and follow Andy's excellent advice but risk invalidating the warranty as my device is only 5 weeks old?
I think I will wait until the 12 months is up then have a go!
Cheers again Andy for prompt reply, and sorry I have been slow in acknowledging your help.
Regards

You don't need support as such. Garmin provide the POILoader for just this purpose. The POIloader also looks for and uses the third party SOX.exe.
It all works very well if you follow all the hints and tips that can be found here although it's quite straightforward. _________________ DashCam:

Adding our database as POI will not invalidate your guarantee, as Garmin provide the wherewithall to put them on your device via POI Loader |

...and, if you're still uncertain, you don't even have to load the camera files onto your device at all. PoiLoader can install them onto your SD card if you prefer. The device will happily read them from there.
