|
|
Hi
I've just moved from the iOS app to an Android app. Although there are a number of pluses , two issues which weren't there on the iOS version that are very frustrating are:
i. The map constantly zooms out and shows me, e.g. the whole of London instead of just the area that I'm in, and then zooms back in again short while later. This constant flickering is very annoying.
ii. The average speed check also seems to be unusable on mine. It jumps about all over the place, and is usually showing my average speed in excess of 200mph on the M1's 50mph zone!! Normally starts off fine, but very quickly jumps out of range.
I am on a Samsung Galaxy S3. Tried with both stock ICS rom, and also current (stock/beta) Jelly Bean. The issues remain.
I'd appreciate any help in getting these two issues resolved.
Many thanks.
PS I should add that other map applications seem to work fine, including Radaroid. |

Hi Smar,
I have a GS3 as well and don't have this problem - at least not yet anyway
I'm assuming you are using Google maps.
Not an expert, but I seem to remember other posts on phones with similar issues and it was sometimes put down to either loss of / poor data connection and the map tiles were not readily downloaded and / or a temporary loss of the GPS signal.
Know it doesn't help you, having said that if it is a continuous problem maybe something wrong with the phone. Could try deleting all updates to the maps and then reinstall in case there is an issue there.
Good luck. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

Could be a dodgy GPS chip. How are other navigation/ map apps behaving? _________________ Lutz

On mine, absolutely fine, Google nav and Sygic, but Sygic has on board maps so doesn't count. I get thed impression that it goes to zoom out when loading the next closeup tile. How big are the tiles so that I can make a better assessment of this theory? I'll give the av speed a go as well, but I would have thought that you would have had more feedback if that was iffy. |

Do these scale depending on CA zoom scale, or does 256x256 cover a fixed real life area? |

you tell Google what zoom level you want and the server returns a bunch of these tiles for that zoom level and your requested position (your tile and the eight adjacent tiles) _________________ Lutz

Thanks. I'll go and have a good trip with it on all the time tomorrow. I usually just have it in the background so don't use the map function V much. |

Other GPS related apps seem to be working fine - e.g. Google Maps has absolutely no issues; I've also used Co-Pilot and Radaroid etc, and all work fine. The issues seem to be only related to CamerAlert.
It is interesting to hear that not everyone is having the same problem, as that would indicate some issue specific to my phone. I don't believe it's hardware, and am inclined to think it is a software issue. Specifically I wonder if it is clashing with some other software. Will have to test further. Is there a log file somewhere that I can monitor for CamerAlert? |

Just went out for a test drive. about every 20 secs CA either goes blank for a short while or zooms out to quite a lot of the south coast, probably like from hastings to Brighton (ish). It seems to do it when, after it happening, the new top of the map reaches about the car position. I feel that it is doing this whilst loading a new map tile. As the previous poster said, would a log file help find out what's going on, and if so, how do you switch it on, then I'll take another run out. |

I had similar problems when I moved the app to the SD card. When I moved it back to the phone all was well again.
I was advised at the time to get a faster SD card but I still haven't. _________________ DashCam:

I haven't moved mine to the external SD card. It is all as default, so not sure if that is the problem with my set up.
Also for what its worth, I have one of the fastest SD cards (Class 10), original Samsung etc, so even if it was using the card, I would have hoped that speed of the card wouldn't be an issue. |

I have exactly the same problem with the speeds on my HTC Sensation, and have had for the last year. I have reported it twice on these forums but go no real solution I am afraid, other than the answer you got "you must have a faulty chip". I have several apps that can show my speed and yet this is the only one that this shows up on.
With mine it happens in Specs zones. The instance speed is fine but the average speed is constantly jumping all over the place. On more than one occasion I have managed to break the land speed record! Makes it useless in those zones. _________________ Peter

Mine is running on the phone, not the SD so it's not that. I havn't tried the Av spd yet but will do over the weekend. |
