|
|
After several years with TomTom have now been seduced by the Lifetime Map Update to buy a Garmin 1490. So far so good. Like the size, accuracy and its ability to 'find' its location straight away.
BUT, I can not load the voices on with the Speed Camera data. I have put sox.exe in the POI Loader folder. I'm using Ash's excellent Camera Manager on W7 64bit. But when I approach a camera all I get is a double 'bong'.
I've searched this Forum for answers and run up a few blind alleys but I still can't hear voices!!!
Can someone help me, please? |

I did already look at the topic started by Streaky123, but I don't get any error messages. Camera manager happily downloads the latest zip file and creates the appropriate GPX/BMP files. These I then put onto the 1490 using POILoader. I just don't get any voice warnings when I'm near a camera, just bleeps. I have the correct (I think) version of SOX in the POILoader dir. I have tried to locate version 2.6 of POILoader but all Google links take me to version 2.7. If anyone knows where I can get 2.6 I would be grateful. |

Have you tried the one hosted by PGPSW, which is linked to from the Garmin instructions page?
The instructions page is here.
And the link (about 3/4 of the way down) is here.
I had a look at it, but couldn't see any way to check what version it is. Do you only find that out once you use it with POILoader etc? (which I don't have, not being a Garmin owner!)
If it *is* a good one, can you report back with which version it is, please? _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

If you hover your PC cursor over the .exe file it will show its details.
The one I am using shows as File Version 2.7.1.0 and it works fine.
(The previous one was File Version 2.7.0.0, and this is the one that created a .poi file instaed of a .gpi file if you told it to load to a Garmin device).

Finally got around to testing the latest setup. Still no voice warnings. I have the latest POILoader - found via the link above, and the 'older' SOX also correctly linked as above. Still just getting standard Garmin sounds. I have just PM'd ASH10 to check if I have the directory structure correct. I will update when I have more info. |

If you have say:
GatsoThirty.GPX (or CSV)
GatsoThirty.BMP
GatsoThirty.WAV
etc
etc
..all present and correct then POILoader and SOX, providing they are in the same folder/directory, should 'do the business'.
If the above are all in place then it isn't Ash's software causing the problem.
I assume you only have the one set of cameras on the go, and any Cyclops database has been removed/disabled ? _________________ DashCam:

I recently gave up on TomTom because of map updates that just are NOT up to date. So, I bought a Garmin 1490T with its lifetime updates, and with the first updates my road is on the map. My problem is that following the instructions on Pocket GPS I can't get the camera database and voice alerts onto the unit. Can anyone give me some non computer geek instructions to get me up and running for my holiday in Scotland in a couple of weeks time. Many thanks in advance for your help |

Can you explain what does / doesn't work?
Error messages?
The guide is already as simple as it can be so some idea of where it goes wrong for you would help. |

I have GPX files and BMP files produced by Ash's software in the same directory as the WAV files.
SOX is in the POILoader directory.
I'm not suggesting Ash's software isn't working correctly - I'm checking to see what I have done wrong
Please explain about Cyclops/one set of cameras on the go. Is there a set already on the 1490? How do I disable it? I have to say the the Garmin handbook is pretty thin. |
