My father drives a BMW with a GPS system. Overall I'm not impressed with it, however it does have a feature missing from TomTom 3. It has an arrow in the top left of the screen that points to your destination (as the crow flies). I found it very useful if I was stuck in traffic, or was in a new road system not on the map. Does anyone know of any add-on for TomTom that performs a similar function? Thanks. |

There is a compass you can display on the screen. |

The compass is good, however if you reach the end of a road and have a choice of turning left or right it is not immediately obvious which to take.
Maybe I'm the only one who has found the direction feature useful on another product! |

I don't think an add-on is possible, because what I remember of the TomTom SDK is that it doesn't expose any routing details to add-on programs. That said, if you can somehow get hold of the co-ordinates of the destination, it would be possible to write a suitable add-on.

Thanks David. I thought it was a useful feature and I'm surprised it wasn't on TomTom 3. It seems simply a matter of comparing the co-ordinates of the destination with your current position - if the data was available I'm sure it would be quite straightforward (much easier than the great POI add-ons available).
I'll keep my eye out! |
