Anyone know of a 'bricks & mortar' Sat Nav shop in the Manchester area please? |

I don't know of any dedicated satnav shops, Halfords carry a range of the most popular devices as do larger Tesco's. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks, was wondering if there is a more specialist outlet, with more choice. Would like to see Garmin 2440 in the flesh and speak to someone who knows what they are talking about (sorry Halfords!) |

I know what you mean, but sadly the market doesn't reward specialists who know their subject. We're all far to keen on chasing the lowest possible web price these days and brick'n'mortar shops have no chance to compete.
I think we might have a 2440 in for review, MikeB is road testing a Garmin at the moment but I have trouble keeping up with the model deignations. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren, I know it was a long shot. I'm one the near extinct breed who will pay a bit more for over the counter service! Some of the mail order outlets run from a shop (like satnaveasy) so was wondering if perhaps there was one of those here in the north west ...
I'll keep my eye open for the 2440 review.

I think we'd all do well to pause for thought when buying some items from the internet. Sometimes, the advice and back-up of a local shop is worth a few quid extra. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Well, after much Googling I found a 'real' store that actually had a 2440 in stock, it turned out to be Best Buy. There aren't too many of these stores around, the nearest one was 40 miles away. The price was up a little on internet offerings but after allowing for p&p the difference was down to £25 ... so I thought sod it, I'll give it a go.
Having decided to buy at their advertised price I was surprised to find the store had a price match policy, the sales guy made a couple of Google searches and was satisfied that there were 2440's in stock and available (elsewhere) at lower prices and offered to match.
The price match gave me, within pennies, a £40 saving ... better than anything I had found on the internet ... result! |
