|
|
From looking at the instruction table on speed camera database section it says I need the dvd to update cameras and POI's. My RNS510 is one of the new version ones where the maps are pre loaded onto the HDD. Can I still use the speed camera and POI downloads on here and update using my SD card. Was thinking of using POIinspector. Dont want to subscribe for updates if im not going to be able to use them. Also which files are the best to download ie file extensions. Help and advice greatly appreciated |

Hi,
You would be best to contact the author of Pimp My Nav here: http://www.pimp-my-nav.com/support.htm
(or wait and see if he replies in the thread - I've edited the post title to mention it)

If you have v7.1 or later maps, POInspect0r is the way to go according to VWNavi forums.
I am going to have a go with it, I will let you know how it goes with 3980 firmware and v7.2 maps, so the new database format with the separate POI partition on the HDD. |

Andy
Do I take it you have upgraded the firmware on your RNS510 yourself to the latest version- 3980? and have you managed to incorporate speedcams into an image of the map disk or are you importing from sd card with this firmware update which as I understand it makes a new poi partition on the unit hard drive for user poi. Have been going round in circles reading various forums on how to get this done and would be most appreciative of any help you could give. (I am aware that as of yet there is no way to get audible alerts but at least a visual is better than nothing)
The dealer is a bit lacking with any info-did not manage to do some basic coding when i picked up the car recently
Thanks |

Upgraded to 3980 myself, which formats the HDD in to 3 partitions. If you then load v7.1, 7.2 or 8 maps on to there you are using the new DB3 database format and can import POIs from SD card. No need to keep rebuilding the entire map DVD every week to update the speedcams!
I am still playing with it to work out the best way of doing this, there is a limit on the number of categories you can display on the map, so I am just using the categorised by type speedcams at the moment.
If you use a v3xxx firmware, VW have a nice online tool here for destinations from Google Maps
http://vwlabs.com/
You need to know which revision RNS510 you have before loading 3980 firmware as it could brick a revision A unit. Rev B (which I have) is OK but took a bit of fiddling to get the Multi Function Steering Wheel controls and the Maxidot (or Highline in VW speak) display working properly. Rev C and later are fine with 3xxx firmware.
If you need the firmware PM me.
What car are you running it in? |
