I've recently been changing how the POIs are loaded onto my Nuvi 660 and along with a Garmin map update I now get a Starbucks alert banner whenever I'm near a Starbucks.
Now I am a coffee addict, but Starbucks coffee is very much a last resort. So what have I done in re-loading my POIs to generate a red Starbucks alert banner?
Until recently my Speed Camera files were loaded via POI Loader direct onto my Garmin, and a separate file of POIs were on my SD card.
I was told that my machine would not read 2 separate files and needed to combine the contents of the speed camera database with my optional POIs files into a single file which POI loader would then load onto my satnav.
This seemed a cumbersome method of working, but nevertheless proceeded to load all the BMP files etc along with the full contents of the Speed camera database into a single file and it is true that I now have only one GPI file for POI loader to find. It is also true that I included Starbucks, along with other coffee bars as one of the options in the POI file. But I don't get banner alerts for any other POIs wiithin the file. Why is this?

You seem to have misunderstood some out of date and slightly wrong information
OLD INFO:
All POI files (csv and bmp) had to be in a single folder. POI Loader would do it's magic and generate a single POI.gpi file on the Garmin. You could, however, rename the initial POI.gpi file to anything.gpi and then transfer some more files and it would use both sets of data.
NEW INFO:
You still need to put all the POIs into a single folder to import them BUT POI Loader now asks you what you want to call the generated file on your device which makes it easier to put multiple gpi files on your Garmin.
SO: put your speed cams into a single folder and transfer them as 'speedcams' then put your other POIs into a different folder and transfer them. There is no need to make a single file with everything in it, but you DO need things to be in a single FOLDER :D
hoe that makes sense?

I think it does.
So I shouldn't for example, have my speedcams file on the Garmin and the other POIs on the sd card? They should all be either in one folder on the Garmin or one folder on the sd card?
Hopefully, that will also get rid of the Starbucks banner alert?

no, i think you still misunderstand a bit.
you can have the outputted gpi file (that poiloader creates) anywhere. he 'one folder' thing is for the source files for POILoader to use. No need to put it all into a single file, just makes sure all the individual files are in the same folder.
eg if you wanted starbuck and the consolidated speed camera database then you would put the following files into a single FOLDER:
pocketgps_uk_gatso.csv
pocketgps_uk_gatso.bmp
pocketgps_uk_mobile.csv
pocketgps_uk_mobile.bmp
pocketgps_uk_redlight.csv
pocketgps_uk_redlight.bmp
pocketgps_uk_specs.csv
pocketgps_uk_specs.bmp
pocketgps_uk_pmobile.csv
pocketgps_uk_pmoble.bmp
starbucks.csv
starbuck.bmp
then when you use poiloader to import the files then you will see, under where to / extras / custom poi, the each of the csv files as a 'menu' item.
OR, if you wanted, you could put the speed cams and starbuck into different folders and import them at different times - you don't NEED to though.
