Hi,

I am very new to this all. I just got my TT for my Palm T3 and after playing with it, I found this major problem: Even though the wired GPS receiver is blinking green, indicating it has a signal, the Tomtom software claims it does not have a signal. Sometimes this goes away after driving around a couple of minutes, sometimes this just stays forever until I repetedly restart the Palm and/or the software. It is very frustrating.

Needless to say that I haven't received any replies yet to my Emails I sent to Tomtom support.

Any ideas what might be wrong? I don'T think the receiver does not have a signal because it is blinking green and not red (which would indicate loss of signal).

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Sascha

you may have set the wrong baud rate. Make sure it is at 4800 Bd

it does not allow me to set the baud rate because I selected the "Tomtom wired GPS". Which is what I have. It only allows to set baud rates on third party equipment.

To add to this problem, the whole car kit that powers the Palm and the GPS module died on me today. It does not power up anymore.

Don't select "TomTom wired GPS" - select "Standard NMEA"

yes, but why would I want to do that if I actually have the tomtom wired GPS and the documentation says to select it in the config...?

I will try once I have my replacement unit...

thanks,

I think this rather a philosophical question. Some people want to not care about the details, while others (like me) do not trust predefined templates. Who knows what "TomTom wired GPS" settings are affecting? Instead of fishing in the dark I rather want to specify all settings myself. Gives me more control.

Hi
I am getting exactly the same problems- cannot work out the combination to get the GPS recognized- I have the full TOMTOM carkit-GPS etc, I also upgraded to TT 4.12 but it can take up to 30 mins before GPS found
I have reported fault to TOMTOM -

I will try your fix and update you all

When it works it is excellent- but why do I have to wait 30 mins before I can use it ?

This is what I found,

1) Power everything up with the T3 out of the cradle.
2) Start TomTom on the T3
3) Insert T3 into cradle.

Did it work? If so take a look inside the GPS mouse and make sure the screening around the cable is making very good contact with the metal can, I tucked mine behind one of the can lugs. Since doing this it works every time and I don't need to follow the proceedure above anymore.

Are the weak signal problems related to you being in a built up area, getting transmission shadows or under areas of power cables where signals from the satellites can be screened at all? Do you get a better signal when you drive out to open land, for example?
