Did I read somewhere that you get free map updates for life? Or did I dream it? _________________ Dennis

To date users of the iPhone app from TomTom have not been charged for app updates which have all included a new map, no reason to assume this will stop or continue to be honest as its down to TomTom - Mike |

TANSTAAFL. Doesn't say which version map and the Western Europe doesn't include Greece, otherwise I'd go for it. Instead I guess I'll look for a nice little SDHC card for the 550 and get the bigger Europe one next time they have a fire sale. _________________ Dennis

apparently iOS 4.3 will bring in in-app subscriptions (subtly different to in-app purchases).
it wouldn't surprise me if at least 1 of the nav app's decide to change map updates to being a subscription service. i certainly can't see how they can keep updating the app and giving away free map updates all the time.

So far no iOS navigation app provider has charged for updating the maps.
Maps are either updated when a new app version is released or they are downloaded on the spot (a la Google... and Garmin in the US).
Too early to say if the business model has changed but for sure the time of the very costly once a year map updates is gone forever ((it still applies only to some expensive built-in navigation systems)
