Don't forget, where TomTom are concerned, newer does not necessarily mean better!

There have already been some reports of postcodes not being found in the v860 database that were OK on previous versions.

By all means try the updated files, but keep a backup copy of the old version, just in case you don't like the new one.

The only postcodes that I found reasonably accurate came with the One XL I bought in Sept 2007. I see I purchased a v720 map in May 2008, so I'm guessing the map/postcodes originally on the device would be around v690?

I would think it would be in the v7 range, Mike.

I got my 720 in September 2007 and it had the 690 on it, as I remember and the LMG back then bumped it to the 7 level. I think. Rolling Eyes

The LMG would not update the postcodes? So I was trying to guesstimate what version was originally supplied. Irrelevant, though, as I did not keep a copy. If only I'd known..... To show my ignorance it was only in the last few months that I became aware that postcodes were updated separately, so I've been cheerfully using quite old data. But as I've not found them that accurate, I've used them very little. My favourite method of setting a destination is to get hold of a map of the location, then transfer it to my Go by browsing the map.

I have just updated to these postcode files and TomTom has finally corrected the name of the road where I live in this version to the correct spelling. Strangely nobody else but TomTom seemed to ever have a postcode database in which it was spelt wrong in the first place. I did report it through both Mapshare and Teleatlas Map Insight but that was 19 months ago.

I suspect this probably means they have also finally corrected the misspelling in the latest 860 versions maps although I'm still on version 830. However another serious postcode error I reported to them at this time (where they list a road that the local authority doesn't even consider to be a road in its own right against the postcode but fail to also show the only road with which it is officially associated against that postcode) is unfortunately still there in this latest postcode file offering.

But in any event clearly not all corrections in the new postcode files are in the wrong direction. Cheers!
