Dear all

Hi all GPS people

I got an old TT GO910 :-(
With version 7.903 and old maps V650.......... once again :-(

I have been searching around the forums etc - looking for a guide or help to be able to upgrade it, because I can't figure it out.

I just for a simple and secure way of having it upgraded - maps - and maybe even the firmware. A step by step guide will be very nice.

It seem that you people know how to do it - but I'm lost!

Any hints??

Thanks very much.. I'm sure there are many looking for the same Exclamation

Have you looked at the FAQs at the top of this forum?

What you need to do first, is make a backup of the entire device.
Then download the TomTom "Home" program if you haven't already.
Run that and connect the Go to the PC with a USB cable and select "Update my Go" in Home.

That will get you the latest software, and maybe a whole load of MapShare" minor corrections to the map (although I can't remember if MapShare works on a 910).

To update the map you'll need to buy it and download it (takes a long time so you need a reasonably fast broadband connection). Again, you do that in Home, using "Add maps".

7.903 IS the latest software, and MapShare works with the 910, although it probably won't for a 650 map. Wink

I happy that the software is okey!

I did went to TomTom homepage to buy it - but upgrading the European and USA map - which are installed - is more expensive than buy a whole new Garmin unit. Evil or Very Mad
And Nokia is bringing maps into the devices for free...
So surely I will not do that... Wink

It seem TT is forcing me to find alternative ways... Embarassed

Any hints?

Decide what you can afford to do and do that? I suggest buying the cheaper Garmin unit or wait for the free Nokia Maps and see how good they are.

Does that help or are you asking for something else?

Are you talking about the OVI Maps which have been free worldwide mapping for their top end smartphones for a year or more?

The OVI maps application is pretty good and the maps are Navteq (who they own) rather than the Tele Atlas maps used (and owned) by TomTom.

But at the end of the day a smartphone is not IMHO as good as a dedicated PND with the larger screen etc.

I have both and both have their uses - OVI maps an my Nokia 5800 are great when abroad and I need to find my way on foot round Rome or similar but I wouldnt use it when making a car journey over a long distance in the UK.

It is horses for courses and what is affordable.
