issue.." No Maps"
Caused by:- Me being a pillock...

Background:- I updated my Navcore after having loads of issues with the handsfree..(repeating/locking up etc.)
I updated navcore & this made it worse.
I recently updated my TT GO720 & could no longer get GPRS Traffic.
My solution??...yep i simply removed all the bloody files & replaced them with a back up from June this year.

.and now...the TT sits at the welcome picture (a nice BLACK passat!!) & does sod all else.
TT home tells me that I have no maps...
Have I bricked it??

Any support would be appreciated...

When you first bought the unit, did you take a full back up on day one?
If so, this is what you shall need to get back up and running again.

Ive still got my GO720 files, from Aug 2007, just in case.!

Yep..I'll try that next...
I've got the maps back in now..but it won't go any further than the start up screen...it appears to just switch itself off (??)

I should stick to upteen megawatt burners..those are easier to fettle...

Hmm, firstly we need to get it to boot properly. Can you restore the day 1 backup in its entirety?

If you have later maps, take a backup of them first!

Hi darren,
I've got the original back up, June's back up & a back up from a hour ago.
The problem is that the bloody thing seems to switch itsself off.
the tt banner comes up, then the screen which shows the HD, then it goes to.....hold on I've now got the tt icon with the yellow screen.
The TT is now also in explorer & Homes booted up....

in home I can see the maps, favourites etc etc.....
All appears well there.
I'm just concerned that if I disconnect the ruddy thing won't boot up...

right..it's finally booted up, with the tT icon & the yellow screen.
It can be seen in Explorer & in TT Home....
Do I now remove all & bang in the original set up..or back to the one from a hour ago?
The TT won't allow me to simply install over the top, so it seems as if I have to remove/replace...

I'd go back to the first one at this point. Easier to delete everything first and go from there.

Constant re-booting is usually down to an incompatible "MapSettings.cfg" file in the UK&ROI or Western_Europe map folder, deleting this file usually clears the issue up and the device will create a new MapSettings.cfg file when it next boots up. The slight downside is that deleting the old MapSettings.cfg file resets all your POI warnings, home location and voice preferences.

Another cause of constant re-booting is when Map Share is enabled and POI changes are applied although I have only seen posts about this fix pertaining to the 940 units though but I guess it could affect other units as well.

Maps not found, download the "Clear Flash" utility from the tomtom.com web site and run that at least three times.

As for the Traffic issue, what version of map have you got installed to the device? and look in the Western_Europe or UK&ROI map folder at the following two files, pay particular attention to the file sizes of:

traffic.dat
tmccodes.dat

Are they showing as 0Kb per chance? - Mike

Just banged all the files folders in..deleted the western europe folder & banged in one from the backup made today.
Still having issues with data tranfers (GPRS) witht eh phone.
TT not even opicking up the datet/wirelss setting..

Will now see if the issue is as what Mike has suggested..

cheers for the help..
