|
|
Hi,
I've recently got the TT iphone app after using a TTGO 720 for a few yrs now.
I have some POI's on my 720 that I would like to transfer across to my iphone app. Is there a simple way of doing this?
Thanks in advance BBT |

This is only possible to do IF your iFone is Jail Broken, even then the use you can employ Custom POI files on an iFone is somewhat restricted, post back if you are running a JB iPhone if not then what you want to do isn't possible - Mike |

Cheers Mike,
My iphone is Jailbroken.
Is it a massively long winded process?
Thanks BBT |

I use Disk Aid which you can download from Here its not free but it won't break the bank as its under $10 and it works very well - Mike |

If you are using something like DiskAid or ifile, browse to the following location:
Root/Private/Var/Mobile/Applications
Within this folder you will see folders with a long string of numbers and letters. Click on the folders and they will expand. In most cases there will be a folder named which makes it obvious which app the folder refers to.
For TomTom you are looking for a folder called UK-Ireland.app. Open this folder. Inside this you will find anothr folder called:
United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland
Drag and Drop your .ov2 and .bmp files into this folder. Close diskAid/ifile and restart your iPhone. Open TomTom and you will have all your POI's listed.
WORD OF WARNING
You are browsing through the root files of the iphone. Ensure you are confident with doing this before starting. You could cause yourself problems. I had never done it before, but its pretty straight forward.
Hope this helps
Rgds

The advice from Aidi is spot on and covers whats needed to be done in order to transfer POI files to the map folder withing the app on the iPhone.

Finding the correct folder can take quite some time as its far from obvious whats what on the iPhone, whether its worth bothering doing this with the TomTom app is a rather mute point, you can get the POI files on the device but it still cannot issue a warning as you approach a camera.
The only iPhone navigation app that offers anything like true Custom POI warning is Sygic, again this requires a JB'ed iPhone to get the files in to the correct location - Mike |

Yep, a bit of a pain not getting a warning... But CamerAlert does the job for me!
Only reason i worked this out was i am off on holiday soon and need to know how to get to the nearest supermarket!!! |
