Could the database be given a file name that included the date please? |

Surely the file date in explorer or whatever (Chose views-details) gives you a clue as to when you downloaded it |

Not if you use list view as I do, I include the date in every file name as an indication of when that file was first created which I prefer to the date it was downloaded or modified.
Could the date be substituted for the seemingly random letters in the PGPSW database file names? |

Hi
Why not just rename the files yourself with the date.

The random characters are part of the security and can be used to trace the owner in some cases of piracy.
As mentioned above why not rename the file yourself when prompted to save the file? |

when you save the download it asks where you want to save it and also gives the option of calling it whatever you like. |

Personally, I create a folder with the name and version number in it's name then download and unzip the file within that folder. It keeps them all organised then. _________________ Gerry

Thanks - it did occur to me that they might be a security measure so no problem, I'll alter the name to include the date myself. |

What happens if the pirates change the name of the ZIP as suggested?!
Seems a lame security method. _________________ TomTom 700 GO user since Dec 2005.

It's only 1 of the anti piracy methods and you'd be surprised how many people don't change the random characters before sharing the files. |

Well, I never thought of it as part of the security, just some characters to make it not the same as any other. I mean, I change file names so often (photos is a prime example) that I would never dream of pirating out a file named (in code) "DennisN's OV2 Speed Zoned UK database version 8.102 dated 15th August 2010".
Some people must be as thick as thieves - maybe that's where the saying came from. _________________ Dennis

When I download the file I just use Save As.. and name the file like this with the date: pgpsw_19_08_2010.zip |

Just a quick hint - if using dates in filenames, it's always best to put them in Year-Month-Date order (e.g. pgpsw_2010_08_19.zip). That way it's MUCH easier to sort them into date order. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |
