I am totally confused by the use of voice alerts and the (seemingly) daily changes that occur - yes you can use them, no you can't, yes you can........
Searching is of little use due to the many changes in services offered by TT.
I have a TT GO 950 Live and I have downloaded and installed the latest UK speed cams from this site.
Can I use voice alerts and, if so, where can I download them?
Is there a video tutorial available (as stated in the tutorial on how to download)?
Many thanks. _________________ David

quite easy David, i managed it so it must be
you can find the voice downloads here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/speed-camera-alerts-tomtom.php
i recommend these: Text To Speech - PocketGPSWorld Voice
Ah a blast from the past. This set, created by ‘Andy_P2002We, uses the same “computer voice” as in the original PocketGPSWorld.com replacement data.chk files.
you get the original polite sound and "warning- speed camera XX spoken.
instruction for instalation can be found on same page. |

After posting here I have now found the necessary voice alerts. However the consolidated voice alerts do not align one-to-one with the consolidated speed cam categories (see below).
PGPSW Ogg files for UK Speed Cams (Consolidated)
pocketgps_uk_gatso (see 1 below)
pocketgps_uk_mobile (see 2 below)
pocketgps_uk_redlight (see 4 below)
pocketgps_uk_specs (see 5 below)
pocketgps_uk_temp (no speed camera category)
PGPSW Speed Cams (Consolidated)
1. pocketgps_uk_gatso
2. pocketgps_uk_mobile
3. pocketgps_uk_pmobile (no voice alert)
4. pocketgps_uk_redlight
5. pocketgps_uk_specs
Can these differences be explained or have I done something wrong? _________________ David

not 100% on this as ive never used these before but it could be due to using the consolidated files.
i always use the speed zoned complete.
Quote: |
UK-Single file with all cameras
Use this option if you want to minimise the number of custom POI's loaded onto your device.
UK-Consolidated by type
Contains one file per camera type. Use this option if you want to discern between the different types of camera.
UK-Speed Zoned Complete
Use this option for the most comprehensive installation, capable of warning the driver of the camera type and the speed limit of the camera. |

At the bottom of the download page it notes that many voice files were made before the pmobile category was made. There's two options - either make a copy of the 'mobile' file and call it 'pmobile' though you won't be able to tell the difference. There's also a voice for pmobile in the Crystal voice.
Alternatively, use the speed zoned files which also give the speed as well as the camera type which is the set I'd recommend for the 950. _________________ Gerry

And Temp cameras are no longer produced (they're in the other categories now), so that voice is redundant. _________________ Dennis

I actually took the extra time to type in my text to speech warnings it didnt take as long as I thought it would. If you decide to try do just one or two the way you think they should be and test them before proceeding with the rest. Details of how to are in the FAQ,s somewhere. |

Thanks for all the useful info.
Just after posting (why is it always just after!) I re-read the page and at the bottom I found the info mentioned above. I then copied the "mobile|" warning and renamed it "pmobile"
Hopefully I have it all up and running now.
Re Garry's suggestion of using the speed zoned speed cams - surely this would take a long ti,e to set up as there are so many different categories? _________________ David

Depends what you call a long time. Say 20 categories at 10 seconds a go, say 5 minutes max (takes me a LOT less than that and your tenth one takes less than your first). You only do it once (well, sometimes you have to re-do it if TT bodges up your settings). _________________ Dennis

I have to agree with DennisN on the time involved in setting up about 30 voice alerts for speed cams.
Last night I bit the bullet and set up my TT for both the UK and Europe.
Thanks to you all everything seems to work satisfactorily.
I have just one further question (well only one at the moment!).
I will be going to the USA (Florida) in the near future and I will be touring around for 30 days. I have downloaded the speed cams for the USA but I cannot find any associated ogg files.
Are there any suitable ones around or should I just type in my own warnings? _________________ David

I think you'll find the answer in this thread. _________________ Anita
