After a long absence I have returned to this forum.
I've been without a TomTom for all that time as I couldn't afford to replace the TomTom Go I used to have until some kind soul decided I didn't need it any more.
I've just bought a v2 refurbished TomTom 30-series:Western Europe and made the mistake of using TomTom HOME and updating my map without backing up first.
It's left me with an unusable device.
Does anyone know how I can retrieve the original data as supplied on the device? _________________ XL Series-30 Western Europe

Does anything in This Tread Help?
Make a Windows Explorer back-up before doing anything else though. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Welcome back
No backup of the device I assume?
What did you actually do, is this the Latest map Guarantee map update? If so then a call to TT should have them sort out the map you need to fix it? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the info AliOnHols.
I deleted everything off the TomTom and HOME only put the application back - no maps.
I did do a backup after all, but I don't know what I did wrong before, and just before giving up and sending it back I thought I'd put all the files back. It actually works.
So, the moral of the story is :-
Do a Windows Explorer backup NOW _________________ XL Series-30 Western Europe

Ahh! The mysterious and un-certain world that is TomTom!
Glad you have it working again.
Just in case anybody else is following this, I would suggest that you do NOT delete the TTHome contents, re-name them maybe but don't delete. You never know, there may just be something in there which could be useful at a later date. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

It's DEFINITELY not a good idea to delete everything without a good, solid backup!
Home does NOT have a way to restore the device back to how it was "out of the box".
Glad to hear you had one though Robin, and it all worked out OK in the end. |
