Navigon advise me that screen protectors can block the GPS signal sometimes & affect performance of the touchscreen. I find this hard to believe. Is there any truth to there claim. If not who would be the best supplier of a good protector? |

The GPS point is, I suppose, conceivable, but I've never seen it reported here. I got one from Zagg which seems pretty good (you can find a fair few mentions on the site). They only do specific model versions now though, and you'd need to check with them if they do one which will fit the new Navigons yet (if the screen size is the same as their existing ones, they should be ok anyway). Although it was shipped from the US, it arrives pretty quickly, but I see there are now UK suppliers.
Navigon are definitely right about the sensitivity issue though and you might want to check (from their site Q&A section, Zagg seem ok on this but I obviously can't say for certain, as I've got an older model) - jonandmarkuk said that when he bought one (from somewhere else), and it DID stop the touch-screen facility working, possibly because the screen couldn't sense the finger. _________________ David

The touchscreen on the 4350 max is a different technology to that on the 84xx. It's resistive so responds to presure, where as the 84xx responds to the conductivity from your fingers.
You shouldn't have any problems with a screen protector, but don't go for cheap. the cheaper they are the more likely they will effect the responsivness of the screen.
Do some google searches to find recommended brands. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

I use an ASUS A696 PDA and its GPS performance is staggering.
It has a Palm screen protector that you simply cut to the appropriate shape using the template. The only effects is that the screen is dimmer.
The performance OTOH compared with a Garmin or Magellan handhelds is chalk and cheese.
On a cruise ship on a balcony the hand helds had to be tied to the ships rail before they could lock on. The PDA, once it was locked on could be taken inside the cabin and the door closed. I have also had a good lock inside a single story building with only one window. |
