|
|
I have a 930T and quite frequently use the RDS-TMC, or rather I used to....
I've noticed that over the last 3 months or so connecting to information has degraded to the point now that it doesn't connect for more than a minute or so, if at all. If it does connect it drops out almost immediately and tries to reconnect, rarely succesfully. My trip is invariably Warwick to Portsmouth - M40, A34, M3, M27. Traffic info is quite important on the A34 as it often turns into a temporary carpark waiting for accidents to be cleared!
Has anyone else noticed a reduction of RDS-TMC service along these roads of late or does it look as if I need to buy a new antenna. Or could there be a fault with the 930? |

Did this occur after a map update per chance? Use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the Western_and_Central_Europe map folder, what is the file size of the following two files:
tmccodes.dat
traffic.dat
Are they both 0Kb or something else - Mike |

Good question Mike, unfortunately I don't have a good answer about the update. I can't remember. I guess I should start a "change" recording log.
Timewise it does just about coincide with me having to replace my PC as the previous one, which had all my backups, went bang. So if I have to wind back I'm in a world of hurt.
tmcodes.dat is 6804Kb
traffic.dat is 1kb

The faults not down to the file size then as they are larger than zero bytes, where in the UK are you located or does the RDS device simply not work wherever you are in the country - Mike |

I live in Basingstoke (M3) and have noticed RDS-TMC not working.
Now It always took a few minutes for TMC to lock-on by few I mean 10 to 15. Once on the M3 it would lock on quickly. Now I have undertaken a few trips to Guildford and noticed TMC did not lock–on until I got to Guildford. I also travel to Newbury a lot and have not had a TMC lock-on for a couple of weeks.
I put this down to the station serving the North Hampshire area not broadcasting RDS-TMC for some reason.
I have also noticed that if I connect the device to TT Home then my 520 always takes much longer to get a TMC signal for the first time. After that it was always fairly quick. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

Just been on a trip to Newbury and TMC connected within a couple of minutes, so looks like its all back on.
I still think it was a broadcast issue rather than a TT issue. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

There's a useful function on the TMC test page on this site
http://www.thedevmachine.co.uk/sl/testpage.aspx
The "Way back when" button allows you to see what was being broadcast at various times in the past. There are plenty of other buttons too, but my knowledge of what they all mean is a bit thin!
I hope this is of some interest.

I don't get around the country much MIke. I do the M40, A34, M3, M27 every week going home. From the other posts it seems there may have been a problem with the transmission, it always used to lock it and stay with me. I'll see how it goes now.

Just got my 720T back after repair as some trim seemed to have fallen off where you plug traffic lead in.
On long journey today from Berskire to Cheshire I see no traffic info/bar at all, at all; any files I should be looking for from back up?
Or does it need to go back again for some hardware repair?
I haven't yet d/loaded new map.
Update Looking in map folder for files above I see
2 Traffic Files of 1kb each:
1 is a text document
1 is a INC file
and TMC codes file size=6804 _________________ Gel

When you say some trim had fallen off from around the RDS socket was the small black "doughnut" surrounding the center part of the socket? if so is this actually stuck inside the plug of your receiver as it will prevent to plug from going all the way in? - Mike |

Mike, don't have traffic lead here in hotel, but came back repaired looking normal again.
Seems to slot in firmly, but I switched off a few vtimes today and reset directions in hope it would activate, but no luck. _________________ Gel

Having problems with my traffic as well
Not used it for a while, but yesterday when I plugged in the TMC-RDS aerial I now dont get the "connecting" message. I also do not see the traffic bar on the right hand side of the screen.
Checked the cable connector which seems fine, as does the way it plugs into the device.

Have you tried a reset? This happened to my 720 on Sunday after removing the device when I stopped at a service area, and a reset sorted it out. _________________ Anita

Hello,
I live in Basingstoke too, and travel all over the M3 corridor so it was good to hear that RDS didn't work, and then is now??
However I have query. I currently have a Go 530 and use data Traffic with my Blackberry - which is not always as stable as it should be. I have been thinking about switching to RDS but which service is considered better? Obviously when the phone and Go don't connect then RDS is the better what never having used RDS I'm not sure if I should invest in the device.
If I did go for RDS, will data traffic work as well or is it a "one or the other" approach?
Regards, David. |
