Has anyone on here been caught (or know anyone that has been caught) at Dartford? I crawled up there at 50 yesterday and had to go to the inside lane due to all the traffic up my backside, when I moved over nearly everyone sped past me going at least 70.....if they are active cameras they must be making a mint. |

I came over the bridge at 10 this evening and the speedcam signs have been painted out with grey paint which I assume means that they are not active yet. But don't hold me to that |

Huh? I thought they were there just for sick laughs. The only occasions recently when I've used that bridge, I could have walked across faster than I drove (and I don't do walking!). _________________ Dennis

It depends on your time of arrival Dennis. I use the Dartford crossing regularly though not frequently and have experienced a 45 minute delay on the bridge approach yet on another occasion been able to drive non-stop at 70mph straight to a toll booth.
I vaguely remember 'Camera not in use' signs but haven't been that way since late December. |

I drive the bridge every work day, avoid the obvious bad times and you will regularly be a road hazard if you insist on sticking to 50 or less as everyone else (including the police cars) will be overtaking you.
The "cameras not in use" signs went up last September and were later replaced by the painted out camera signs. It's the right side of bl**ding obvious that these cameras are no more, they are deceased, bereft of life, they have gone to meet their maker.
Sadly though they remain in the database giving false warnings. Just what does it take to get a camera removed from the database? |

It takes the actual removal of the cameras, what else?
You drive it every day, I don't. You're satisfied they're inactive, I don't know that. So what am I to think of the database when I come blasting along at 55mph and suddenly there's a bunch of big yellow bluddy cameras staring at me? How long would it take to switch them back on again? If they are still there, they're no different from all the Gatsos we've got in the database - simply no idea whether they've got film in them, so safer to warn than not. If this database only contained active cameras, there'd be no mobile camera warnings at all. _________________ Dennis

But according to Darren in the Blackwall Tunnel Spec Cameras thread,
"We only ever record cameras that are working i.e. the ones that can result in a fine."
so surely the Dartford Specs should be removed? |

Different circumstances - Blackwall Tunnel Specs are apparently on test. In order not to misquote Darren , he said Quote: | We only ever record cameras that are working i.e. the ones that can result in a fine.
If/when these move from test to live we will activate them but until then it's a no. |

If they are re-activated by removal of the signs, they can be re-instated within the week.
To not misquote Darren, then by your argument, once a cam is in the database it should never be removed even if it is not in use and will not result in a fine????
This needs a definative policy decision

OK, so we must now accept that when cameras are signed 'Not In Use' they will remain on the database as 'active' - thanks for the clarification. |

So neither of you install the Mobile or pMobile databases? _________________ Dennis

You've side stepped the point, these are SPECS cameras that have been identified as not in use since at least last September yet remain on the database as 'active'. |
