Hi all,
I'm currently using a 720 and thinking of upgrading to 740 model. The main reason is I want to take advantage of the live services, particularly HD traffic. I'm hoping to holiday in France this coming summer so European maps are a must.
I'm surprised to see that the 750 can be bought cheaper than the 740 but here is the questions I'm seeking help with:
1. I understand the 740 live services are subscription based but if I purchase will I be able to use the HD/live traffic/live services in France without further cost on top of whatever I have to pay monthly?
Thanks,
Pete

From the Tomtom website:

Quote:
Driving out of your country? No problem, all LIVE devices can receive TomTom HD Traffic in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal and the Netherlands.

The "roaming" is included in your subscription.

NB: the newer x50s are supported, not sure if the x40s are yet.

With the 740 you get three months Live services free with the device, the roaming data should be enabled by now and you can also use the Mini USB RDS-TMC receiver with the device if you don't have Live services. Currently the x40 range are only running Navcore 8 software although, this isn't too much of an issue as an update might get released to bring the x40 range up to date.

With the 750 you get one month Live services free with the device, the roaming data is enabled by default on this device but you cannot use the Mini USB receiver with this device, it needs the accessory mount with the built in RDS-TMC receiver if you ever want to switch from Live HD Traffic to the free to use RDS system - Mike

My early 740 is now enabled for roaming. France seems to be better than Belgium/Netherlands, on a par with the UK at it's best, but my experience of the last two is limited.

Thanks for the further replies. I've actually got a TMC aerial which I currently use with my 720. Presumably this will plug into the 750 the same way?
Anyone know why the newer 750 is actually cheaper to buy than the older 740? If I buy I'll buy either from local halfords or amazon. If the unit supplied does not come with the latest map, will I be able to update for free via LMG?

Which TMC - the round plug or the usb tmc?

You will only be able to use the usb one with a 740.

There is no reason why you won't get LMG unless the device is not brand new or an authorised refurb.

For clarification on the use of RDS-TMC receivers:

x40 devices

Mini USB receiver works fine with supplied car mount
Round plug receiver works fine with accessory mounts
Works fine with the RDS-TMC receiver built in to the mount

x50 devices

Will only work with the RDS-TMC Accessory mount, neither of the other receivers will work with the x50 range at this time - Mike
